What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that affects an individual’s ability to socially communicate and socially interact with others. Individuals diagnosed with ASD may also engage in restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviors that are abnormal. ASD is considered and described as “spectrum condition” because deficits and behaviors manifest in individuals differently and to varying degrees. Early diagnosis and intervention, as well as access to appropriate services such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), can lead to significantly improved outcomes.
